CT and MRI Image Fusion

It is well known that images of computed tomography (CT) and radiation dose minimizing conebeam technology are particularly well suited for bony structures. MRI is particularly well suited for the imaging of tissue containing water. In some interventions it is essential to use both CT and MRI images and to overlap them on the screen (image registration) so that you can either navigate on the CT data or on the MRI data or the navigation is based on a mixture of both image modalities. This procedure is also necessary in head surgery for orthopaedics or spinal surgery.
